There have been shouts in the media and all kinds of blog groups for months that the Golden Visa in Portugal was going to disappear. We were always nuanced and said there was still a long way to go. And what appears now! The Socialist Party (which has an absolute majority) has amended its own bill, so the changes are bound to happen.
Importantly, the Golden Visa will NOT be abolished. Only the real estate investment as one of the elements to obtain it will disappear, as well as the bank deposit option.
But you will still be able to obtain the Golden Visa that eventually entitles you to an EU passport by, e.g. investing money in cultural heritage (250.000 EUR), creating a job, or investing 500.000 EUR in an investment fund and so on.
Good news: Portugal is determined to continue attracting wealthy and talented people and allowing them to do business in a tax-friendly environment. For example, the 10-year tax exemption for newcomers (NHR) is still in place and cryptos are taxed friendly.
